Training comes first at Monkey business

Visitors to Dorset are to be among the first to experience new levels in customer service.
Staff at Monkey World one of the area’s top attractions, are the first to be trained to deliver the all new Welcome to Excellence Customer Care training programme, setting new standards for the tourism and leisure industry.
Welcome to Excellence, brainchild of the English Tourism Council and previously known as the Welcome Series, has provided customer care training for more than 300,000 tourism front-liners since 1992. Its recent re-launch as Welcome to Excellence includes an expanded range of courses, revised course content and new support materials aimed at improving repeat business and creating favourable word of mouth recommendation.
Key staff at Monkey World are now equipped to deliver the latest customer care techniques to existing staff and seasonal extras. For Monkey World boss Jim Cronin, whose aim is for a world-class conservation and visitor attraction, encouraging visitors back for more is all important. ‘Our admission price is between 30 – 50 per cent less than similar attractions and we are constantly developing our facilities including those for families and disabled visitors. A consistently high standard of customer care is part of that process’.
Monkey World, who receive more than 450,000 visitors annually, were introduced to Welcome to Excellence through Dorset New Forest Tourism Partnership. They were also delighted to discover that, as a local tourism employer they could achieve 70 per cent savings on the commercial cost through the Partnership’s funding connections with the local Learning and Skills Council’s Workforce Development Programme.
Welcome to Excellence consists of one-day customer care training sessions delivered in this area by the two regional tourist boards, Tourism South East and South West Tourism. Holiday parks, visitor attractions, hotels, restaurants, bars, retail and leisure centres are among those who can benefit from this fresh customer facing approach.
