Royal Holloway Celebrates Welcome to Excellence Achievement

Royal Holloway, University of London – based at Egham, Surrey - recently held an open day for clients and tourism representatives to celebrate becoming the first organisation to achieve corporate accreditation in the Welcome to ExSEllence scheme.

The college offers a range of ‘Welcome’ courses and a special certificate awarded to Royal Holloway recognises its commitment to customer service excellence. Sue Gill, TSE’s head of skills and learning, presented the certificate to Stephen Bland, the college’s director of facilities management and Tim Parry, training officer.

While at the college, Sue and guests, took the opportunity to view the college’s new halls of residence featuring an undulating sedum planted roof and cedar cladding to complement its woodland setting. During summer vacations guests will be able to stay in light and spacious en-suite rooms, all of which have plenty of storage space and internet access.

Architectural drawings of the new lecture theatre were also on display showing an impressive building with tiered seating for 350-450 people. There will also be ample breakout rooms as well as exhibition and catering space. The lecture theatre will be completed in 2006.

In addition to providing new conference facilities for guests, Royal Holloway is also continuing to push further forward with customer service training. So far, the college training department has focused on ‘Welcome Host’ and ‘Welcome Management’ programmes and is now expanding a ‘Welcome All’ programme to develop staff understanding of customers with special needs.
